OUR BEHAVIOURAL/TRAINING SERVICES (designed with your dog in mind). Out Of The Doghouse offers a variety of behavioural and training services, always customized to meet your dogs’ needs!
Behaviour Consult:
- Phone intake
- Detailed history taking and background information
- In home consultation, observation, and recommendation lasting 1 ½-2hrs
- Recommendation and initial prognosis of behavioural issue(s)
- Plan of action is discussed and outlined with client
- Client may opt for the single consult only OR begin Behaviour Modification and/or Training (A follow up report/prognosis will be sent out)
Behaviour Modification:
A long term more complicated process. Methods used are based on in depth knowledge of learning theory, how to use Operant and Classical conditioning, and current behavioural modification methods. A good understanding of the latest research in behavioural science is imperative
- The goal is to change ‘negative’ emotional reactions (like fears and aggression) to more positive feelings through desensitization and counter conditioning. Leadership, compliance and management are used in conjunction with DSCC.
- All methods and techniques are positive. There is NO VALUE in using punishment in any form with behavioural work
- Requires a commitment of work and time. Success is dependant on the owner’s level of commitment and willingness to follow a laid out behaviour plan.

Working as a team A lifestyle plan will be laid out, addressing all behavioural needs and taking a ‘whole dog approach. Behaviour changes can be a lengthy process, we add fun, dog play, classes, sports, socialization, owner bonding games, in various combinations to keep frustrations at bay and provide overall balance for your dog. Then we examine each client’s needs and goals to come up with a combination of behaviour/training options geared to each individual client/dog relationship.
Behaviour Management:
- Helping clients to prevent undesirable behaviours from occurring
- Usually by using’ management tools’ such as gates to block access, muzzles to
Prevent biting, crates to discourage house soiling
- Management is typically used in conjunction with training/behaviour work.
NOTE: TRAINING AND BEHAVIOUR ARE NOT THE SAME FIELD.
